Summer Youth Programs
For Kids Only

Ages 5-12

Join the fun for 2023! There will be games, crafts, sports, cooking, swimming, field trips, and more! CUSR Summer Youth Programs offer a safe and structured environment to explore, expand, and enjoy.

We are staffed with well-trained, outgoing individuals to make this summer the best ever! A 1:4 staff to participant ratio is observed whenever possible. The CUSR Summer Youth Program is open to any individual who has a disability.

We understand that it may be difficult to pay all costs up front. Because of this, we require a $10 non-refundable deposit per child per session to hold a spot. The reminder will be due two weeks before each week begins.

Camp Spirit

Ages 13-High School Graduate

Fairytale Ball

Ages 5-22

Our annual youth & teen dance will feature pizza and snacks, dancing, games and great music!

Improvish
Ages 16+

Learn more about the theater world and brush up on your theater skills! Join us for this fun prop, costume, and acting workshop!

City Tours
Ages 18+

Let’s see what C-U has to offer. Have some fun on cool community outings with food and activities to enjoy. Meals and admission are included in the fee.

Mustang Fishing Club

Ages: 14+

Do you enjoy being outdoors while socializing with friends? This might be the perfect club for you. We welcome all skill levels of fishing. Join the CUSR Fishing Club and enjoy relaxing summer Sundays with us at Kaufmann Lake.

Mustang Bowling

Ages: 13+

Practice your bowling skills this summer! Competitions with other area teams and Special Olympics will depend on current safety guidelines and will be TBA. All participants need to have a current Special Olympics Medical Application on file with CUSR by July 25; Medical Applications must be valid through December 3. Volleyball

Ages: 13+

Learn the basic skills of volleyball or improve your skills. Players on this team will develop their serving, passing, and hitting skills. We will work on skills for both Modified and Traditional volleyball. Competitions with other area teams will depend on current safety guidelines and TBA. Athletes need to have a valid Special Olympics Medical Application on file with CUSR by July 25; Medical Applications must be valid through October 30. CUSR Afterschool Program

Ages 5-22

Fill your afternoons with games, sports, arts and crafts, cooking, and hanging out with friends at the CUSR Center! We offer an amazing and safe atmosphere where participants will laugh, play, grow, and learn new skills.

To reserve your spot, pay the $10 non-refundable deposit per child, per month. The remaining balance will be due on the deadline listed below by 5pm. Participants will be dropped if payment is not made by deadline in order to offer the spot to a wait-listed participant.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: CUSR’s After School Program starts at 2:30p. It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to coordinate a drop off time with the bus responsible for transporting their child to ensure an appropriate drop off time. Early drop offs may not be able to be accommodated.

Ages 6-22

May the force be with you to join us for Star Wars Day! Enjoy fun Star Wars themed games and movies.

Ice Cream Social

Ages 16+

We all scream for ice cream! Eat different varieties and combinations of ice cream sundaes while enjoying time with friends.

Mustang Open Gym

Ages: 16+

Want to shoot some hoops but team sports aren’t really your thing? Want a chill place to just curl up with a book or grab some markers and color? Come hang out at Mustang Open Gym! Shoot hoops in the gym, play one of our giant board games, or hang out in the activity room and socialize with your buds!

Mustang Softball

Ages: 13+

Spend this season working on the fundamentals for our Mustang Softball Team! Practices will focus on the basic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, and sportsmanship. Competitions with other area teams and Special Olympics will depend on current safety guidelines and TBA. Join CUSR as we venture to the Wisconsin Dells Kalhlari Resort. Hang out at Tom Foolerys Arcade and enjoy a fun magic show! This program fee includes lodging, meals, and admission. Get a carnival game wristband for $5 and play all the games you want! We’ll have snow cones and popcorn available for purchase as well. On-site registration will be available for some programs. If you would like to donate individually wrapped candy to be used as carnival prizes or would like to volunteer at the event, please reach out to cusr@champaignparks.org.

Sensory Egg Hunt

Ages 5-22

The hunt is on! CUSR invites you to celebrate spring and enjoy some family fun at Prairie Farm! Hunters should bring a basket and be prepared to search high and low for colorful eggs. Be prepared to explore your senses while searching for special eggs with lights, sounds, and textures. Pre-registration is required.

Adult Egg Hunt

Ages 14+

Hop into spring with some eggs-cellent fun! Join us as we hunt for eggs inside and outside of the CUSR Center. At the end of the hunt, you will be able to enter the eggs-travagant drawing for prizes.

Ages: 13+

Bring your friends to the bowling alley for some fun! Perfect your skills while socializing with your friends and meeting new ones. Participants will be assigned to lanes and can bowl up to two games.

Our guest speaker will be Sheila Krein who is a Transition Consultant at the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission. The topic is Your Child’s Future: Transitioning from School. This is a free event for students, parents, guardians and teachers of students ages 14-22 with IEPs or 504 plans. Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Ages: 5+ (weight limit of 250lbs)

Dreaming of riding horses and learning how to care for them? At Healing Horse Stables, you will learn riding skills through an hour-long lesson including various exercises and activities from a P.A.T.H. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified instructor. You will also have a ground lesson where you will learn how to groom and saddle a horse.

Note:  Close-toed gym shoes are required and no high heels. Due to safety concerns, you will not be able to participate in improper footwear. Cowboy boots are welcome! Long pants are highly recommended to protect your legs from the saddle and horse. Bring a water bottle each week!

Donuts and Free-Throws

Ages: 14+

Let’s have a sweet time on the court! We can shoot some hoops and enjoy donuts at the same time.

St. Patty’s Day Party

Ages: 14+

Are you feeling lucky? Join CUSR as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! We will be playing games, enjoying a tasty snack, and making a St. Patrick’s Day craft.

Intro to Dance Styles and Techniques

Ages: 14+

Dancing is a form of art and expression. Come learn with our very own Musical Theater Choreographer Pam Bedford. She will teach you various forms of dancing and stretches, and have small discussions about where some of the styles of dance come from.

CUSR’s Carnival Extravaganza

Ages: 16+

We’re having a carnival! Enjoy cool games, great food, and awesome prizes!

Ages 14+

Attention all singers and dancers. We are busting out the karaoke machine for a night of fun and talent. Whether you choose today’s hits or the classics, it’s going to be a great time!

Ages 14+

Fill the evening with  a night of cards, Wii video games, board games, and more. Snacks are included.

The Movie Social

Let’s pair a great movie with some delicious snacks and hang out with friends.

Brunch Buddies – Original Pancake House
Ages 18+

Calling all brunch lovers! Join us as we adventure out to different restaurants around CU for some awesome brunch and fun!

There is something for everyoen at Track & Field! You can train for field events, running, walking, sprints, long distance, and wheelchair races. Athletes have the opportunity to compete at the District Track & Field Meet.

Note: Please wear appropriate athletic clothing to practice – athletic shorts or sweatpants, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Jeans and sandals of any kind are not allowed at practice.

We’re planning three exciting trips between 2023-2024, and we want to ensure you get a head start on planning. We’ve created a payment plan for each trip to make it easy. You can pick one, two or, if the travel bug has bitten you – do all three! You won’t be able to register online for these programs; you’ll need to do that through a CUSR staff member*. *Payment plan will be provided and must be signed by parent/guardian. Participants must be 21+.
