CU Special Recreation has announced an accessible afterschool program to take place at Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana for the 2026-2027 school year. Modeled after the association’s successful afterschool program in Champaign at the CUSR Center, the Urbana program will offer adapted, skill-building activities for youth of all abilities, including games, sports, arts, crafts, cooking, and socializing.
The Urbana afterschool program has been developed to close a gap in options for accessible afterschool childcare in the Champaign-Urbana area. The program offers a special resident rate and scholarship options for Champaign-Urbana residents, and students from surrounding communities are welcome to utilize the program as well.
“Caregivers want peace of mind when finding an afterschool program for their youth,” said Christina Mott, CU Special Recreation Manager. “We are happy we can offer an additional space where parents know their children will be safe and have their needs met.”
Registration for August through December afterschool in Urbana is open now. Caregivers can register online at cuspecialrecreation.com or over the phone at 217-819-3980.
